Catalog description

Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. This course covers how cells are built, powered and regulated. Topics include macromolecules; membranes and transport; energy production and conversion; genome organization and evolution; DNA structure and replication; gene expression and regulation; intracellular trafficking; cytoskeleton; cell communication and electrical signaling; cell division and cancer. Additional topics may be presented based on time and instructor expertise. The course emphasizes evidence-based reasoning, quantitative skills and core experimental methods. Prerequisites: BIOL 112 and CHEM 120 .
