Credit 1. 1 Lecture Hour. Basic theory and practice of common single molecule approaches; basic optical and photophysical considerations for single molecule measurements; single-molecule, Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (smFRET); observations of single molecules in free solution and tethered to surfaces; single molecule manipulation and measurement by force-extension spectroscopy. Prerequisites: BICH 603 or approval of instructor; graduate classification in biochemistry or biochemistry and molecular biophysics.
