Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. COURSE OVERVIEW. Examines human courtship, marriage, reproduction, family structure and parenting through the lens of evolutionary ecology. Explores how human reproductive and parenting patterns compare with those of other primates and how they vary across cultures. Evaluates different viewpoints on and approaches to the application of evolutionary logic to the study of these topics. Critically examines hypotheses explaining human behavior through biological, cultural and ecological lenses. TOPICS AND THEMES. Topics include evolutionary approaches to the study of human behavior, life histories, reproductive strategies, sexual selection, marriage, parental care, infidelity, divorce, as well as explorations of cross-cultural and cross-species variation in these areas. Prerequisites: Junior or senior classification.
