Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Comprehensive overview of major livestock breeds used in animal agriculture; includes history of breed development, breed characteristics, production traits, roles of breeds in different production systems; consideration of distinction between purebred and standardbred livestock; examination of how breed registries, selection and performance standards influence classification, breeding decisions and commercial production practices. Prerequisites: BIOL 111 or BIOL 107 .
