Catalog description

This course offers students a “how-to” guide for conducting ethnographic research while also examining the epistemology, ethics, and politics of fieldwork. The course is designed for students who are willing to engage in focused and applied training in ethnographic theory and practice. This course provides students with numerous examples and approaches to conduct ethnographic research including challenges related to entering, existing in, and leaving the field and alternative methods of data collection and observation. This course is interactive, allowing students to exchange fieldnote techniques, interviewing styles, and practice field work in an environment that trains students to conduct rigorous qualitative research.
