Environmental Sociology

This course is designed to introduce students to environmental sociology. Environmental problems have critically defined the 21st century. From climate change, more frequent and intense disasters, and global pandemics to environmental injustices, pollution, and exploitation of people, land, and resources, communities can no longer afford to ignore the impact of social factors on the environment. It is critical for social scientists to understand how humans impact the environment and how the environment impacts people in relation to social systems and structures. This course is designed to introduce you to environmental sociology, a growing sub-field of sociology. Over the course of the semester, students will explore interactions between humans and the environment, contemporary environmental problems, and social movements that drive sustainability and environmental protection.
