Catalog description

This course examines the interaction between humans and the natural world beginning with the biological and cultural invasion of the New World in 1492 to the present era. The course includes such diverse topics as Native American vs. Euro-American views of nature, the consequences of American expansion, and the impact of industrialization and urban growth on the American environment. The changing relationships between humans and the natural world through time, as well as the causes and consequences of climate change and the growth of the modern environmental movement will also be discussed.
