Catalog description

This introductory course focuses on the intersections of media, culture, and society with an interpretive approach to the production, distribution, and consumption of media, including the news, film, television, music, and other forms of media. Students will understand the significant role of media in society and, in turn, how society shapes media. This course examines the dialectical relationship between media and society over time, beginning with the rise of mass media and transitioning into the impact of digital media in contemporary society. Through this course, students will deepen their understanding of how media engages in our daily lives, including the social organization and cultural representation in media.
