Catalog description

The course will serve as an introduction to the biochemistry of microorganisms. In the first 1/3 of the course we will learn what a cell is, how a cell makes macromolecules, and becomes two cells. In the next 1/3 of the course the bioenergetics of the cell will be discussed (how a cell starts with simple compounds and makes macromolecules). In the last 1/3 of the course we will learn about cells and how the interact with the outside world, and each other – microbial stress response, differentiation, biofilms, genetic exchange and how other cells affect the growth of the cell.
