Catalog description

Prerequisite: AGRN 2000 or AGRN 2400 or AGRN 3000; consent of instructor This course examines the chemical processes occurring in soils and their impact on environmental quality and ecosystem health. Topics will include the chemistry of soil minerals and organic matter, the role of microbes in soil processes, soil pH and nutrient availability, and the fate and transport of contaminants in soil. The course will also cover current issues in environmental pollution, including the impacts of pesticides and heavy metals on soil health and the remediation of contaminated sites. Students will engage in hands-on experiments and case studies to understand the interplay between soil chemistry and environmental sustainability.
