Prerequisite: AGRN 1100 , AGRN 1110 and AGRN 2000 or 2400 or 3000. Botany and classification, soil and climatic requirements, species adaptation, establishment and management of grasses and legumes for silage, hay, and temporary, permanent, and rotational pastures for ruminants, swine, and horses. Forage crop species, morphology, physiology, adaptation, and identification. Soil, climatic, and topographical environmental affecting forage production. Primary forages used for animal production and erosion control in the Southeast. Emphasis on establishment and management of grasses and legumes for silage, hay, and temporary, permanent, and rotational pastures for ruminants and horses. Extensive discussion of forage quality and animal production interactions at the soil-plant-animal interface. Forage related diseases in livestock.
