Catalog description

This required course is the sixth in the Applied Pharmacotherapy and Patient Care (APC) series that integrates foundational and clinical sciences to prepare students for evidence-based, person-centered practice. Using a continuum of care and disease-based approach, students will connect core principles of pathophysiology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, diagnostics, and therapeutics to clinical decision-making and the Pharmacist’s Patient Care Process (PPCP). Students develop skills in collecting and evaluating patient information, assessing clinical presentations, identifying and resolving drug therapy problems, formulating and justifying treatment plans, and monitoring therapeutic outcomes. An emphasis is placed on applying knowledge through realistic patient cases, simulation activities, and practice-based scenarios that reflect the current practice of pharmacy. Contemporary and emerging themes, such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, digital health, and practice management, are interwoven to illustrate the relevance of scientific and clinical principles in pharmacy practice. The APC 6 course focuses on identifying and managing neurologic and psychiatric conditions in various practice settings.
