Catalog description

This fourth required introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) builds from PHCY 2401 by strengthening students’ direct engagement in patient-centered care activities. The IPPE will occur longitudinally across the spring semester of the second professional year in a health-system setting. Students will spend time each week at a hospital or health-system working with their assigned preceptor to apply the components of the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process (PPCP). Students will develop skills in collecting and assessing information to identify medication-related problems. Students will practice developing a patient-centered plan and communicating findings to their preceptor and peers. Through this experience, students will participate in pharmacy and patient care activities that highlight the professional responsibilities, attitudes, and values of pharmacists in the care of patient in the health-system setting, contributing to their professional identity formation. Students are expected to engage professionally with peers, preceptors, and patients while demonstrating appropriate communication, accountability, and respect for all members of the healthcare team.
