Catalog description

This is the third required introductory pharmacy practice experience (IPPE) that occurs in a health system (institutional) setting longitudinally across the fall semester of the second professional year. Students will spend time each week in a hospital or health-system pharmacy working with their assigned preceptor to gain exposure to institutional pharmacy services, the medication-use system, and the pharmacist’s role in patient care. Through this experience, students will observe and participate in activities that highlight the operations, professional responsibilities, attitudes, and values of pharmacists in the institutional setting, contributing to their professional identity formation. Students are expected to engage professionally with peers, preceptors, and patients while demonstrating appropriate communication, accountability, and respect for all members of the healthcare team.
