This required course introduces students to health system pharmacy operations and management. The course will explore key aspects of pharmacy operations within hospital and healthcare system settings, including formulary management, medication distribution systems, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, workflow optimization, and inventory control. Students will also examine strategies for ensuring medication safety, adherence to accreditation standards, and adapting to evolving healthcare policies. The course will cover the role of health system pharmacy in interdisciplinary patient care, the medication use process, reimbursement models, clinical pharmacy services, and the impact of regulatory agencies on hospital pharmacy practice. The influence and integration of informatics will be discussed, focusing on electronic health records, automated dispensing systems, and data-driven decision-making.
