Catalog description

This required course provides an integrated foundation for the pharmacy profession by introducing students to the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors and attitudes essential for success as a pharmacist. This course covers the fundamentals of pharmacy practice, including calculations, terminology, drug information, drug development, drug preparation, dispensing and administration, biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences, professionalism, and the laws and regulations governing community pharmacy practice. The evolution of pharmacy from a product-centered to a person-centered profession, along with the future landscape of pharmacy and diverse career opportunities, will be highlighted. The course develops essential professional attributes, including self-awareness, emotional intelligence, leadership, and collaboration, as well as an understanding of the professional behaviors and values expected of pharmacists within healthcare and society. Through the development of study strategies, time management, and metacognitive skills, students will be encouraged to cultivate lifelong learning habits.
