Catalog description

This is a face to face clinical rotation. This is a 2 week career exploration course (CE) designed to give medical students a broad overview of patient care in hematology and clinical oncology. Students will rotate at Tennessee Oncology at Ascension St. Thomas Midtown with exposure to outpatient ambulatory clinic and inpatient consult service. By the conclusion of this course, students should be able to: Describe the biological pathways underlying cancer. Take a complete history and physical, participate in discussing appropriate tests, and interpret clinical information. With guidance from faculty, the student will participate in the formulation of a prioritized differential diagnosis and clinical management. Summarize the roles of medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, primary care, pain and symptom management, physical therapy, and other support services in the multidisciplinary care of a patient with cancer.
