Catalog description

GR Students will learn how to work with data structures in python to load, manage, and analyze healthcare data. The three assignments will ask students to perform a set of data analysis tasks including: data cleaning, organizing, indexing, aggregating, plotting, generating descriptive statistics, performing linear algebra operations, and natural language processing. Assignments will be graded based on how well they solve the problems assigned (worth 65%), how “clean” their code is (worth 25%), and how well they document their work (worth 10%). Clean code is defined by readability, brevity, efficiency, and adherence to object oriented principles. Students will choose a dataset to work with for their final project. They will design a project in which they will load, clean, and analyze the dataset they selected. They will be expected to justify their choices, explain the utility of those choices, and present their results in a PowerPoint presentation.
