Introduction to Urban Studies examines the origins, growth, structure, and planning of cities and metropolitan regions. The course introduces key concepts, theories, and interdisciplinary perspectives used in urban studies to analyze the social, economic, political, and spatial dimensions of urban life. Students explore the historical development of cities, contemporary urban challenges in North America and globally, and the policies and planning approaches used to address issues such as housing, transportation, inequality, sustainability, and urban development.
