Catalog description
The study and analysis of 20th and 21st Century art music, its major trends, composers, and compositional devices. Begins with traditional tonality, continues with Neo-Classicism, atonal and serial works, electronic and avant garde styles, and post-minimalism. Also examines the importance of jazz, and accomplishments of African-Americans, and women composers. Keeps abreast of current developments in 21st Century music. Music forms to be studied include symphony, string quartet, opera, performance art, and film scores.
