Catalog description
(CHEM 3410, 3411) A study of the chemical and physical properties and biological functions of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. Topics include cell membranes, enzyme kinetics and mechanisms, replication, transcription, and translation. Laboratory component emphasizes the ionization of acids and bases, pH and buffers, important biochemical techniques, and the chemistry of the major classes of biological compounds. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory per week.
