This course provides a unique perspective on exploring the historical accounts of the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements in the United States. By examining the material culture produced by the Black community, including fashion, music, art, film, magazines, and public access television, we will explore how this material culture shaped the era’s social and political struggles. The course will also analyze how the Black community crafted its historical narratives about the Civil Rights and Black Power movements.
