Black Nashville

Catalog description

This course takes a chronological and thematic examination of the history of African Americans in Nashville from the founding of the territory to the end of the Modern Civil Rights Movement. In addition to exploring the economic, social, and political history of the black men and women who call Nashville home, we will pay close attention to how their history is recovered, celebrated, and erased from public memory.
