An Introduction to Network Security

Catalog description

This course will introduce the various common security issues that are of concern in computer networks. Subjects to be covered will range from SYN floods, node authentication, address spoofing, service authentication, sniffing and routing to securing data during transmission. Software flaws will be exploited using common techniques such as buffer overruns. Intrusion detection, firewalls and securing an operating system will also be discussed. The course will also cover the issue of ethics throughout the semester. An emphasis will be placed on the applications that are currently implemented within corporations for securing their networks. There will be several required reading documents that will help the students further prepare for the class during the semester.
