Family Involvement and Professional Collaboration

Catalog description

The goal of this course is to prepare teacher candidates to develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to build and sustain meaningful inclusive partnerships with families, colleagues, and school communities - especially in support of students with diverse learning needs. Candidates will learn to collaborate effectively with mentor teachers and school personnel; engage families in supporting student learning; participate in professional learning communities; and demonstrate leadership, reflection, and ethical practice. Candidates will gain a working understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504, including how to engage families as active participants in the development, implementation, and review of these plans. Through integrated coursework and concurrent clinical experiences, candidates will apply research-based strategies, professional standards, and collaborative practices to promote every learner’s academic, social, and emotional growth.
