Assessment in the Inclusive Classroom

Catalog description

This course focuses on the role assessment plays in the diagnosis of a disability, the determination of eligibility for special education services, and the education of students with disabilities according to IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Students will become familiar with the High Leverage Practices (HLPs) for assessment identified by the Council for Exceptional Children, including: (a) using multiple sources of information to develop a comprehensive understanding of a student’s strengths and needs, (b) interpreting and communicating assessment information with stakeholders to collaboratively design and implement educational programs, and (c) using assessment data to analyze instructional practices and make adjustments that improve student outcomes. Field-based experiences provide opportunities to practice observation, data collection, interpretation, and collaboration skills.
