Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce the art and science of curriculum design through theory, research, practice, and personal experience. With the Social Studies curriculum and standards at the forefront, this course addresses the state curriculum standards and the developmental needs of PreK-5 students. It includes discussion and reflection on current research and practice related to teaching/learning objectives, planning, methods of instruction, and interdisciplinary teaching. This course is designed to be taken in the first semester of the junior year as partial preparation for thoughtfully and effectively teaching students in PreK-5 classrooms. 15 Weeks EDCI 3110 Classroom Behavior Management EDCI 3400 Culturally Relevant Pedagogy EDLI 3500 Foundations of Literacy Development and Instruction EDCI 3500 Instructional Strategies and the Social Studies Curriculum EDCI 4190 Technology in the School EDCI 2100 Field Study in Education I This course is required for the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Early Childhood Education programs.
