Tennessee State University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course provides an in-depth study of rock mechanics principles, including rock properties, stress and strain analysis, rock failure mechanisms, and the impact of explosives and fragmentation. The course also covers ground control methods used in tunneling, mining, and construction. Students will use specialized software for rock mechanics analysis and participate in laboratory experiments to measure rock properties, simulate rock fragmentation, and apply ground control techniques. The Rock Mechanics Lab complements the lectures, providing hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and ROCSCIENCE and PLAXIS 3D software tools.
