Catalog description

Principles of Organic Agriculture is an elective course in the area of Agricultural Science. It introduces the history, ethics, and fundamental principles of the organic agriculture movement and its relationship to sustainable food, fiber, and seed production. This course will examine the biological, economic, and ethical dimensions of designing a farm or market-based production system based on organic principles and practices. Concepts covered will include organic management system, design and rotation, seed selection, crops, certification, transition to organic, soil, seedling production, transplanting, season extension, diseases and pests, harvesting methods, and marketing
