This course provides a systematic, practical, and accessible introduction to fundamental laboratory methods in biotechnology, establishing a foundation for careers in laboratory-based sciences. Through an integrated format of lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions, students develop essential technical skills using prokaryotic systems. Laboratory exercises begin with core competencies such as laboratory safety, measurement techniques, and quality control, followed by training in key biotechnological methods. Topics include bacterial culture techniques, DNA restriction analysis, bacterial transformation with plasmid DNA, assays for antibiotic resistance enzymes, purification and identification of recombinant proteins, purification and analysis of nucleic acids, replica plating of bacteria, and mutant construction and confirmation.
