Catalog description
The structure, processing, and properties of engineering materials are studied, with an emphasis on metallic systems. This includes: crystal structure, defects, diffusion, phase transformations, deformation mechanisms, strength, and fracture toughness. Also covered are material selection, linear elastic fracture mechanics, and dislocation theory. Offered Fall semester of odd years.
