Introduction to Social Work

Catalog description

This course introduces the student to the profession of social work and its programs, as well as the services that have developed in response to human needs. Both historical and political perspectives will be used in the description of the field, emphasizing the relationship between social work and social welfare institutions. Students will critically examine the values, mandates and issues of diversity that affect the field. Professional ethics and practice principles will be discussed. Service learning (volunteer hours) are also required.
