Catalog description
Students will gain an understanding of the Fourth Amendment related to search and seizure, Fifth and Sixth Amendments related to the interrogation of suspects, civil and criminal liability related to an officer's performance of duties, legal rules and concepts of evidence, and an officer's duties and options in civil (noncriminal) incidents. Students will also learn how to properly identify and determine when a crime has been committed and the elements necessary to make an arrest for that crime, be able to articulate the legal justification for the use of force, become familiar with the legal considerations when dealing with juveniles, and know what constitutes a lawful arrest.
