LondonEx: Clinical Internship

This experiential course combines a structured introduction to the English legal system with a professional externship in London. During the first week of the program, students participate in an intensive academic component focused on the foundations of U.K. law and legal practice, including court structure, sources of law, the legal profession, and professional responsibility. This component is complemented by site visits to key legal institutions such as the Inns of Court and the UK Parliament and guided exploration of London¿s legal landscape. Following the academic orientation, students undertake a six-week externship with approved placements, which may include barristers¿ chambers, law firms, governmental or regulatory bodies, non-governmental organizations, and other legal institutions. Students work under the supervision of experienced practitioners while also receiving guidance from Syracuse University College of Law faculty. Students are graded on a pass/fail basis. The externship experience is supported by a required seminar ( LAW 919 ) that meets regularly throughout the placement period.
