Catalog description

This seminar examines the constitutional, statutory, and policy frameworks that shape the provision of public and private education in the United States. Students will explore federal and state authority over schools; the rights of students, parents, and educators; and the role of education in promoting equity and democratic participation. Topics include: student speech and discipline, religion in schools, school choice and vouchers, gender and racial equity, special education, and affirmative action in higher education.
