Comparative examination of the role and impact of western and indigenous women in colonial societies; “Destructive Female” and “Black Peril” myths; miscegenation; constructions of gender and sexuality and their effect on traditional as well as colonial culture and society; women as agents of political, social and cultural reform and reaction; women in anti-colonial resistance movements.
