Prerequisites: Upper division status. Ethnography of marriage, kinship, household, and family. Analysis from premodern to modern family types, transformation in gender roles, empowerment of women, and dissolution of traditional kinship structures and emergence of new family forms. Consideration of legal and religious frameworks and their transformation from comparative perspectives. Offered every other year.
