Catalog description
In this course we will look at the thematic and production history of Latin American film between 1900-2025. The course will engage questions treated in the film such as the rise of fascism, gender and racial oppression, economic development, and the contemporary marketing and distribution of regional film. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to read a film by analyzing the ways in which cinematography, sound, and editing work in conjunction with other formal elements such as plot, soundtrack, script, to name a few. Textbook: Film Art: An Introduction by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson. The course will be conducted in Spanish.
