Catalog description

The Legacy Journey is an immersive experiential learning course that traces the historical roots and contemporary realities of mass incarceration in the United States. Through visits to significant sites across the Deep South, including locations associated with slavery, racial terror, civil rights activism, and incarceration, students examine how systems of inequality evolve over time while remaining deeply interconnected. Combining field-based learning, critical reflection, and sociological analysis, the course challenges students to connect history to present-day institutions and to develop practical strategies for advancing justice and equity within their own communities. Course enrollment is only by permission of instructor.
