Why are some animals, including humans, social? Why do we seek out interactions with others and gain comfort from these interactions? Why do we live in groups? This course will examine social behaviors and how they are regulated by the brain. Material is drawn from multiple perspectives, covering concepts from Behavioral Neuroscience, Social Neuroscience, Animal Behavior, Behavioral Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology. We will discuss a diverse set of social behaviors in multiple species - from birds and rodents to humans.
