PPE Research Lab
University at Buffalo (SUNY) · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) is an increasingly popular area of study. It brings together the analytic and normative tools of philosophy with the methods of the social sciences to get traction on meaningful, messy, high-stakes social and political problems. This PPE Research Lab is meant to be hands-on. Students will learn how to move from an interesting idea to a real research project: formulating a novel research question, choosing an appropriate method, and designing and executing a study-computational, experimental, or empirical. Along the way we’ll cover core elements of research design and build practical skills in computational modeling (including NetLogo). The class is also a workshop: students will regularly share work-in-progress, give and receive feedback, and practice the craft of constructive critique.
