Catalog description

Immunotherapy and Microbial Therapeutics examines how microbial and immune systems can be leveraged to prevent and treat disease through modern therapeutic and bioengineering strategies. Students will explore antibody and cellular immunotherapies, vaccine and vector platforms, and the design of live microbial therapeutics. The course emphasizes molecular and physiological mechanisms-how microbes survive and interact with hosts, how immune pathways can be modulated, and how biomanufacturing and synthetic biology enable scalable therapeutic development. Through analysis of primary literature and clinical case studies, students will evaluate current technologies, address biosafety and ethical considerations, and propose innovative therapeutic solutions grounded in microbial and immune system biology. The course emphasizes the translational pathway from biological discovery to therapeutic development and clinical implementation.
