Jordan Daniels Non-Profit Experience II
University at Buffalo (SUNY) · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The Jordan Daniels Nonprofit Board Experience (Spring session) is where the experiential learning model for this program comes to life. Building on the foundation established in MGG 480, students step into their assigned nonprofit boards as non-voting members, bringing preparation, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to service. No prior board experience is required beyond successful completion of the first course. Through reflective reports, monthly peer discussions, and a comprehensive Action Learning Project, students move from learning about governance to practicing it. They contribute to real organizational work, engage with board members and community leaders, and develop the habits of mind that sustain long-term civic involvement. Each participant is supported by a layered mentorship structure guided by the faculty instructor and paired with a board representative who provides on-the-ground context and accountability. This network ensures that students are never navigating their board experience alone. The experience is as personal as it is professional. Students deepen their self-awareness, identify strengths, and recognize areas for growth. As they serve their organizations, they also become ambassadors for UB, School of Management, and the communities they support, leaving with practical board experience and a broadened, globally informed perspective shaped by local impact.
