Catalog description

This course covers fundamental topics in the modeling and control of dynamic systems. Emphasis is placed on practical applications of feedback control systems in mechanical and aerospace engineering, including the control of coupled mechanical, electrical, fluid, and thermal systems, and the exploration of tradeoffs that accompany different controller design decisions. Students are trained to design and tune PID controllers and lead, lag, and lag-lead compensators that meet transient and steady-state performance constraints by means of the Root-Locus design method and the frequency-response design method.
