Specialized Criminal Prosecutions

This course explores substantive and procedural issues arising in the investigation, prosecution and defense of white-collar crimes and other special investigations. The substantive offenses covered by this course include “traditional” financial collar crimes such as scheme to defraud offenses, larceny, securities fraud and computer crimes, and other specialized investigations. The course also covers offenses arising during the underlying investigation, such as perjury, false statements, and obstruction of justice. Procedural issues covered in the course include the conflicts, privileges, ethical issues, proffer sessions, plea bargaining, parallel proceedings, corporate sentencing issues, and corporate compliance and deferred prosecution agreements.
