Indigenous in Academia: Intellectual Histories

Catalog description

The impact of Indigenous Studies has taken root within academia and in Indigenous communities at the local, national, and international levels. This course will examine the legacy of the field and its ongoing contributions alongside its critical interventions into the long history of extractive research and colonial scholarship. Students will engage with the works of a wide variety of acclaimed leaders, scholars, and activists who continue to invest in the maintenance of Indigenous ways of being within our shared worlds. Featuring guest speakers throughout the semester, topics range from Indigenous international diplomacy, science as Indigenous knowledge, visual sovereignty, land claims, research ethics, food security, Haudenosaunee philosophies, the past and future of Indigenous Studies, and more.
