Fostering ecosystem relationships is a cross-cultural course centered within Indigenous ways of knowing, which is grounded in interconnectedness and based on deep understandings of the human relationship to the natural world. The course will include traditional land-based engineering topics such as crop farming, harvesting, irrigation and drainage schemes, and soil characteristics. Fostering ecosystem relationships extends beyond the food and domesticated animals we eat and results in a sustainable future that is grounded in principles of environmental stewardship. This course will dive into how we listen to our environment and adapt our way of life to suit our surroundings. The focus will be broad and bound by food systems but will go deep into water and soil health. We will also investigate designing remedial techniques driven by Indigenous knowledge and wisdom.
