Catalog description

In this project-based research seminar students undertake a research project on a local history topic, landmark, or historical marker. Students engage with local history resources, digital documents and materials, and museums and archives for their research. The course begins with readings on history and heritage before analyzing digital scholarship tools and research resources. Students investigate a topic and present findings in a non-traditional format: digital scholarship, handmade book or art, video, podcast, or another creative format. Not a comprehensive digital “how-to” or an investigation of heritage studies, local or public history, we consider the challenges and opportunities presented by these historical sub-fields.
