Sexualities and Genders in a Global Context

Catalog description

This course explores sexuality and gender from a national and global, comparative perspective. How are conceptions of gender and sexuality varied in spaces around the world?  How are notions and experiences of eroticism, embodiment, self-identification, and political organizing affected by the transnational movement of persons, goods, ideas, and institutional frameworks?  How do persons, organizations, and communities engage in localized ways with transnational forces and formations?  To what extent do the concepts of “sexuality” and “gender” speak to identities and social forms elsewhere in the world?  How do such concepts transit globally, and how do they come to mean differently within situated circumstances (locally, nationally, regionally)?  These are some of the questions that will guide discussion in this course.  This course is the same as
