Gender and Global Change

Catalog description

This course will explore the relation between gender and processes of globalization, including racism, colonialism, decolonization, capitalist development, national revolutions, and transnational social movements from the post-WWII period to the present. The course will introduce students to key debates in gender and globalization on the topics of political representation, reproductive rights and population, environment, and labor.  Students will draw on critical feminist perspectives to analyze contemporary challenges such as climate change, food insecurity, intersectional inequality, and LGBTQ+ rights, to transform contemporary crises towards more livable and just futures.
